Wits RHI Ekurhuleni Gophelega Team hosting our CDC Partners

14 November 2023

The Wits RHI Ekurhuleni Gophelega Team had the pleasure of hosting our CDC Partners on Tuesday, 14 November 2023 at one of their district sites.
Tembisa Main Clinic is a PEPFAR-funded, CDC-supported facility providing HIV testing and ART services in Ekurhuleni. The facility has achieved considerable success in HIV case identification, timely ART initiation, retention, and return to care. Several interventions and close collaborations have contributed to the achievements. These include the provision of the HIV self-screening, HIV testing at all key service entry points, population-targeted testing, and peer-led services (Adolescent and Youth Friendly services -AYFS) by both Department of Health and Wits RHI counsellors and facilitators, combined support of the MINA Campaign that focuses on HIV case finding and retention among men, mobile ART clinic services, and utilization of TB tracers to promote timely initiation and retention on TB treatment.

Some of the objectives of the visit were that the Wits RHI teams:

  • Showcased innovations at Tembisa Main Clinic (TMC) that enabled the facility to achieve considerable success in HIV case identification, timely antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation, retention, and return to care.
  • Directly engaged with PEPFAR partners, facility staff on the frontline of service delivery, and clientele accessing said services.
  • Led a tour to showcase a CDC/PEPFAR-supported clinic that operated as one of the largest providers of HIV testing and antiretroviral therapy (ART) in Ekurhuleni.
