Nicole Poovan

Research Clinician

Dr Nicole Poovan is a qualified medical doctor completed her Medical Degree at the University of Cape Town. Specialising in clinical research, she currently serves as a Research Clinician at the Wits Reproductive Health and HIV Institute (Wits RHI) in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr Poovan’s research primarily focuses on HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health.

At Wits RHI, Dr Poovan investigates new methodologies for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), develops adherence strategies for daily oral PrEP, and works on the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Her work is critical in advancing the understanding and implementation of effective HIV prevention measures.

In addition to her clinical and research responsibilities, Dr Poovan is pursuing a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the University of the Witwatersrand. Her academic and professional pursuits underscore her commitment to improving public health outcomes through rigorous research and evidence-based practices.
