Health Programmes APACE Team at USAID/Southern Africa BHO PEPFAR Partners Meeting
Dr Arabang Letebele, Chief of Party for the APACE program in Lejweleputswa District, Free State, recently participated as a panelist at the USAID/Southern Africa BHO PEPFAR Partners Meeting held in Pretoria from 31 October 31 to 1 November 2024. This two-day meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening health systems and to highlight technical assistance approaches that promote sustainable service delivery. The focus of the discussions was on transitioning responsibilities to local partners to enhance long-term health outcomes.
As part of the panel discussion, Dr Letebele shared valuable insights into the capacity-building strategies that have been implemented at both the district and provincial levels under the APACE project. She stressed the importance of a well-coordinated stakeholder management approach, which plays a crucial role in ensuring effective and sustainable health interventions. Dr Letebele emphasised the need for collaboration across sectors, with particular focus on partnerships involving the private sector and the mining community, all under the guidance of the Department of Health.
One of the key strategies discussed was the importance of leveraging existing platforms, such as Operation Phuthuma, to align efforts and ensure that health services are not only efficient but also sustainable in the long term. By working together with a range of stakeholders, the APACE program aims to contribute to the overall goal of strengthening health systems and improving health outcomes in Lejweleputswa and beyond.
