OptiMVacc-SA Project – Strengthening Health Systems to Optimize Maternal Vaccines
The OptiMVacc-SA Project aims to enhance maternal vaccination in South Africa through a comprehensive approach: mapping current maternal vaccination services, understanding pregnant women’s knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes towards vaccines, and estimating how many receive vaccines during pregnancy in the public health sector. To inform our research, we are also conducting interviews with pregnant women and key influencers to explore their views and feelings about maternal vaccines.
By understanding pregnant women’s preferences and attitudes towards vaccination, the OptiMVacc-SA Project will develop targeted strategies to promote vaccine uptake and educate both pregnant women and communities. This will reduce the impact of vaccine-preventable diseases, leading to healthier mothers and babies across South Africa.
OptiMVacc-SA Project Goals:
- Map current vaccination services for pregnant women.
- Gain insights into pregnant women’s knowledge, perceptions, and attitudes toward vaccines.
- Collaborate with the Department of Health, healthcare workers, and communities to strengthen vaccination efforts.
- Prepare for the introduction of new vaccines, ensuring readiness and acceptance.
Together, we can promote maternal vaccination and protect the health of mothers and babies for a brighter, healthier future.
