The Maternal and Child Health Site Hosts the OptiM-Vacc-SA CDC Visit
On 18 July 2024, the Maternal and Child Health site hosted the delegation from the Optimizing Maternal Vaccinations in South Africa (OptiM-Vacc-SA) project, funded by the Task Force for Global Health through the CDC. The OptiM-Vacc-SA initiative aims to assess the current landscape of maternal vaccine delivery in South Africa and provide recommendations to strengthen health systems. The ultimate goal is to optimize the delivery of existing maternal vaccines and prepare for the introduction of new vaccines.
The OptiM-Vacc-SA project will use a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including maternal record reviews, surveys with pregnant women, value chain system analysis, and interviews with key informants. The project will be implemented across six facilities in Johannesburg, Tshwane, and Mthatha, ensuring a comprehensive representation of urban, peri-urban, and rural populations. Funding for this initiative is available from May 2024 through September 2024.
