Wits RHI Participates in GAPSYM17: Exploring the Nexus of Climate, Migration, and Health
Wits RHI is proud to announce that Dr Pascalia Munyewende, a Senior Researcher in the Climate and Health Team, will represent the institute at the 17th International Conference of the Africa Platform of Ghent University Association (GAPSYM17). The conference is scheduled to take place on 28–29 November 2024 at the De Krook City Library in Ghent, Belgium.
This year’s conference, themed “Africa at the Intersection of Climate, Migration & Health Challenges,” will bring together leading scientists, policymakers, artists, and educators to delve into the intricate connections between climate change, migration patterns, and healthcare systems in Africa.
On 28 November, Dr Munyewende will present her research titled:
“Perceptions of the Effects of Heat Exposure on Healthcare Worker Well-being, Performance, and Quality of Care in Two Healthcare Facilities in Tshwane, South Africa.”
Her presentation will shed light on the critical impact of climate change on healthcare delivery, specifically focusing on how heat exposure affects healthcare workers’ well-being and their ability to provide quality care. This research underscores the urgent need to address climate-related stressors to safeguard the future of healthcare in Africa.
