Ward 21 CRS Hosts BIYELA Protocol Training

On 10 May 2024, the Wits RHI Research Team at Ward 21 CRS, led by Prof. Sinead Delany-Moretlwe (Director of Research at Wits RHI), welcomed visitors including Dr. Lori Newman (Deputy Director STI & Gynecology) and Dr. Lyou-Fu Ma (Portfolio and Platform Lead) from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, along with Prof. Connie Cellum and her team from the University of Washington. This site visit provided a practical overview of the upcoming Biyela study, a Phase 3 randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial. The Biyela study aims to assess the efficacy of the Meningococcal Serogroup B Vaccine (Bexsero) in preventing gonococcal infection among individuals born female in South Africa.
