ACT-TB Study
ACT-TB: Acceptability of Community Testing for TB by Tongue Swabs
Rationale
ACT-TB is exploring a community-based approach to TB screening using tongue-swab self-collection. The study will assess whether this approach is acceptable and practical for community screening, while generating evidence on its ability to identify TB.
Aim of the Study
The study aims to:
- Assess the acceptability, willingness and uptake of tongue-swab self-collection for TB screening.
- Determine the TB detection yield and diagnostic performance of tongue swabs in community settings.
- Explore whether machine-learning cough analysis can support TB screening alongside tongue-swab and sputum testing.
Study Population
Adults aged 18 years and older participating in community-based TB screening in City of Johannesburg Regions A and C.
