Technical Support National Department of Health for HIV Prevention & Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis

Rationale

Whilst the Department of Health has made significant gains in the introduction and the scale- of oral pre-exposure prophylaxis as an HIV prevention intervention, at 78% of public PHC facilities support is required to achieve of PHC 100% coverage. In the following 2 years, the department will focus strengthening oral PrEP services and preparing to implement new long-acting biomedical HIV prevention products as they become available.   The priority areas for technical support required by the National Department of Health include:

  • Strengthen oral PrEP implementation which is critical for creating a stable service delivery platform for the implementation of the new biomedical products.
  • Plan and develop implementation guidance for the introduction of the new biomedical products.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of PrEP implementation.
  • Coordination of the introduction of the new biomedical product.
  • Review and costing of PrEP implementation.

Direct support to the National Department of Health will be provided through direct and indirect technical support.
